Mike's Mutt Bike

I happened to post this image I took as I was finishing a ride on Super Bowl Sunday (Beyoncé was probably in most folk's house when I took this) on my Instagram feed.  Someone commented that he wanted to see more about this bike, so here it is.

Black Mountain and Papermill Creek

What this bike is is my commuter.  It was also the second prototype monster cross frame and the first one with the thinner walled tubing that made it into production.  Most of the parts have been on this bike since day one and most of those have been on many different bikes during their life.  If it works, keep on using it.

The current build consists of:
Where your hands go:  Salsa Bell Lap bars, Cane Creek SCR-5 levers, Shimano 8-speed bar-end shifters, PRO Digital Carbon Silicone bar tape.
Where your butt goes:  Brooks Cambium C17 seat, Easton carbon seat post.  I kind of like this juxtaposition.
Where your feet go:  VP Vice pedals, Specialized 46/34/24 crankset (that's seen considerable duty on mountain bikes going back probably 30 years),  and a Shimano UN50-something bottom bracket.
The rest of the stuff that your hands, butt, and feet make go:  King headset, SON 28 dynamo hub in front, XTR M900 hub in back, Velocity Dyad rims, Clement X'Plor MSO 40 tires, Shimano Ultegra f/d, XTR M900 r/d, Avid Roll-A-Ma-Jig, Paul Components Funky Monkey front brake cable hanger, Avid Shorty canti brakes, Schmidt Edelux upside down front light, Planet Bike SuperFlash rear light, Zefal HPX-4 pump, King Cages, Pass & Stow front rack with Wald basket, SKS P50 fenders, and as of today, a Randi Jo Fabrications Bartender Bag - thanks Randi Jo & Eric!

The Pass & Stow rack with the Wald basket are relatively new additions.  I'm really like this combo.  It makes grocery shopping and post office trips super easy on the bike.  And the Pass & Stow rack will also allow a pannier to be attached in about the same location as a low-rider rack (actually a little higher which works well for trail obstacle clearance).  And the rack has internal wire routing for the front light.  Really clean and stable/solid.
